Greenside was appointed by Kier London to deliver magnificent new facilities at Uxbridge College, including a £6 million state-of-the-art sports centre and a £5 million media and IT block in a two-phased project.
The new sports facility, which meet national sporting guidelines, was designed by architects, Harding Neill and Watson, and includes a 7.5m high sports hall for basketball, volleyball, badminton, netball, cricket, gym activities, and futsal, a five-a-side indoor soccer game. Outdoor sports pitches and a substantial fitness suite with the latest cardio and resistance training equipment were also delivered.
The three-storey Media and IT Block houses facilities from media control rooms and film studios to graphic art studios and CGI and 3D green screen studios. Architecturally smart and constructed using a steel-framed and panel system with an envelope that forms an airtight seal around the building to stop drafts and air loss, the facility reducing energy use and boosting its eco-friendly credentials. Computer rooms rely on a ‘thin client’ system which means just one server is needed per room, rather than each terminal having its own hardware to reduce heat output and creates additional desk space for students.
Both projects were successfully delivered on time, within budget, using sustainable materials and construction methods and according to Kier London’s exacting specification.
